Odd Banner Advert Behaviour - Please Help!
I've been using Sryrus' modification here.
Trying to position an advert in the main banner that will look good across all browsers and resolutions but I can only get it looking right in Internet Explorer. In all other browsers I get some odd behaviour. The more I stretch the browser window out, the advert follows it correctly to the right side up to a certain point and then it suddenly jumps back over to the left and then continues moving right again. I can't work out why it does this, but it means for resolutions on 1280x800 the position of the advert doesn't look nice. There seems to be a difference when logged in compared to when logged out. When I'm logged in, this strange behaviour with the advert isn't there and it correctly moves to the right side as I stretch the window out. It's only when I'm logged out that it causes trouble. Here are two screenshots, from within Chrome. One is logged out, the other is logged in. If anyone can help with this it would be greatly appreciated - thanks! Questions/Problems regarding modifications/styles need to be asked in the modification/style thread. That is where the support for modification/style is - not out here in the main forums. Please note that if a modification/style is unsupported (or even if it says it is supported), you may be on your own if you chose to install it.

Thanks for the reply Lynne.
The reason I created a separate thread for this was because it seems to be a browser specific issue and also related to a difference between being logged in and logged out. I'm sure someone who knows more about developing would be able to see what the problem is quite quickly and fix it themselves but unfortunately it's just beyond me. I've also asked Syrus for any help, but thanks in advance to anyone else who think they might be able to help too. It would be much appreciated! |

Since you have a non-default style, and I'm guessing you also have other modifications, my guess is the problem is because of either changes to the style or changes to the style based on the usergroup. I'd suggest using firebug and checking the CSS differences between logged in and logged out users.

Thanks again for the reply Lynne.
Just out of interest which template(s) would I need to look into to check on the CSS differences between logged in and logged out users? Seeing as this involves the banner area I'd guess at it being the header template, but I'm probably completely wrong. |

I know nothing about that modification and therefore nothing about where any CSS for that modification was entered. I would just use firebug to look at the CSS and then do a Search in Templates for any line that is different.

The "modification" is actually just instructions how to modify the header template. I suspect (hard to know for sure without playing with your templates) that the log-in box is interfering with the ad position.

Yep that's right. It's simply just editing code in the header and vbulletin.css templates.
Thanks for the help guys. Do you know specifically which template has the login boxes? Would that be the header as well? I'll play around with it. |
