Guests and Forum Permissions driving me crazy
I have a couple problems and I'm seriously at my wits end with them.
The first problem is that I have a ton of guests, well not a ton but my forum is for paying subscribed members only. There are constantly guests on there that are able to see information because I can see the thread they are browsing. I swear I have the permissions set correctly. How do I get rid of them. And what does it mean to resolve the guests IP address? Second is my permissions are always acting up. For example certain members paid to take a Film class. I create the subforums for it. I create a usergroup for the film people. I deny all access to the subforum except for the film user group. Other members, not all, can still see it. I had to go in individually and deny them access. That is just to tedious and I can't be sure all are being honest they can see it. I thought the problem was fixed until I created a second workshop for business and half of the film people can see it. Or like today a few members needed to have their posts moderated. I haven't changed anything on the admin. It's getting really frustrating. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm running 4.2.0 |

Just an FYI but some guests, if not all, are mostly just googlebot or bing or other search indexers. Even if they're on a thread, all they're seeing is "permission denied" or whatever.
As for the permissions just make sure you've set the proper permissions for the default usergroup that most people have as "primary"; and then for the secondary usergroups that allow access to the subforums -- make sure you update them whenever you make new subforums (new forums created default to open for old usergroups, if I remember right). So, eg: You already have private forum A, a primary usergroup of 1, and a secondary usergroup of 2 that allows access to A; but you make Private Forum B, but don't change the permissions for usergroups 1 or 2, so they default to getting access to it. At least I think that's how it goes, it's been awhile since I've made private forums like that. Not sure if that will help.. Now if you want some real fun with permissions, check out phpbb's; ugh. |
