Hi
one of my users keep getting wrong user and pass error
nobody else has this problem. IPs are not the same
he gave me his pass. I logged out as admin and tried his login info. same error
changed user and and pass in cp, still same error
deleted strikes in db, same

what could it be?

Hard to say. Have you tried disabling all your modifications to see if he still has the same problem? how about using a totally default style? Are all your files unmodified?

I changed function file but I'm pretty sure that's not it
I restored old file anyway and problem still exist

How about turning off the mods? And using a default style? And are all the files unaltered right now or are you only looking at the one?

my mods are installed months and years ago
could they make a problem all of a sudden with no changes?

I uploaded some files for patching purposes but restored them all
I also imported a new language file. could it be it?
why it only happened to 1 member if it's a change in files and db?

It could be any number of things which is why you go through standard troubleshooting steps to find out:
- make sure all files are default
- disable all plugins
- use a totally default style
- use the default english language
