Trying to understand usergroup promotions
Can someone help me to understand usergroup promotions? I thought I understood them well enough but apparently not lol
I have several usergroups, many are primary and lots are secondary/additional and some a mix between LOL I created 3 new usergroups to display a rank image per posts/time registered and these groups are additional groups. Silver Member = 100 Posts plus 60 Days Registered Bronze Member = 500 Posts plus 90 Days Registered Gold Member = 1000 Posts plus 90 Days Registered I want members to go from one group to the next in a ladder type promotion. So initially I created a new promotion for each of the 3 groups per primary group (around 6) but when I ran the task for promotions members who fit the criteria of all 3 usergroup promotions were being placed into all 3 groups as additional groups instead of going from one group to the next. So I thought well maybe I did it wrong and all the primary groups should have a promotion to add the Silver promotion, then make just the 2 extra promotions from Silver to Bronze and then Bronze to Gold but when I run the task for that one no one is is placed into the 2 "higher" groups at all. Does this ony work the way I want with Primary Usergroups? |

It is just for primary usergroups really, although you'll see secondary usergroups change, what you have to understand is the way permissions work, if a users secondary usergroup has higher (better) permissions than their primary then they will always have the rights that the secondary gives, higher permissions always win!
You talk in your post about rankings, thats a totally different affair and you dont need extra usergroups for it, have a read here https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/userrank_add |

Thanx for the reply Simon
I don't think I can use the ranks for a combo of posts and registration date....there's no extra setting there, I may end up just dropping the date requirements though and just use a post amount sunce it doesn't look like the promotions will work the way I want lol --------------- Added [DATE]1343638105[/DATE] at [TIME]1343638105[/TIME] --------------- Hmm that won't work either as I have some ranks set up for usergroups already and I can't have more than one per usergroup. I decided to just trash the idea for now and deleted the ranks and usergroups. I might see if it's doable for custom work when I have a few more dollars lol |

You need to promote from Registered Usergroup (primary) to Silver Member Usergroup (primary). And then promote from Silver Member Usergroup (primary) to Bronze Member Usergroup (primary). And then promote from Bronze Member Usergroup (primary) to Gold Member Usergroup (primary). If you do it that way, there is no way for a user to end up in all usergroups.

That wouldn't work for me though as I have other primary groups that must be primary. I ended up using the ranks for one usergroup based on posts only and making sure everyone was a member of that group whether primary or secondary
Thanx Lynne |
