About
This is a system for geo-locating your currently online users and plotting them on a world Google Map. You can click any of the pins for a link to pull up the user's location in Google Earth.
This is something I originally made almost 5 years ago. Now that I rewrote it for vBulletin 4, I wrapped it up as a product package and released it for the world to use.
Installation
Put the usermap.php file in your forum folder.
Install the product-digitalpoint_usermap.xml product under AdminCP -> Plugins & Products -> Manage Products -> Add/Import Product
Notes
Important! - this uses the free GeoIP PHP extension, so you must have it installed on your server in order for it to work.
Uses datastore cache so it does not repeat GeoIP queries unnecessarily.
Ick... okay, I think I figured out what went wrong. For some bizarre reason I had two different usermap folders on my dev server and I zipped up the wrong one. Uploaded (hopefully) the right one now.
Can someone please write a usermap that shows the usernames of the users and actually works?
I tried this, had my web host download the PHP and data files and nothing.
There was no support.
Plus my users want to see where each other live and don't care about "privacy issues". I would pay for someone to write one that does this and works instead of this POS.
And my request that he contact my web host, because of info he asked for that I simply don't have access to. It shouldn't be supported if it doesn't work universally. Three stars, and doesn't even deserve that. Yep, a POS alright. Worst mod I have installed from here. Others worked like a charm.
Someone please write one that WORKS...and shows the users by name. "Privacy concerns" is not a reason to exclude this functionality.
Giving users an option in their profile/setting to have their Username displayed on the map (or not) might be nice.
Display Username on User Map: yes/no (default = no).
I do have to agree with Boofo, that being derogatory isn't going to have any positive effect.
The fact that this Mod is working for others tends to suggest that the issues you're having are somehow related to your specific installation... since this is not a paid for Mod, pointing the coder to your host and barking "fix it" is not likely to get you any support, let alone the support you imagine you should get... then add to that, that you're bagging his Mod (that works fine for others)... that's kind of a bridge burning move.
The old idiom of; 'You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar' certainly applies here.
