Adding profile fields to Social Groups
Hi. I'm new to vB and I'm working on a project that would like to make heavy use of social groups.. However having reviewed available settings and related mods it would seem I may have to try and handroll a few features to achieve the refinements we're after - such as extra search-centric fields in the social group profile form (eg. 'Location', 'Type'..) and/or a searchable tag system.
In a nutshell can anyone tell me how feasible this would be to achieve without causing major upgrade headaches? Many thanks. Chris Edit: apologies this post should have gone in the vb4 programming section. |

I would strongly advise against making Social Groups the backbone of any custom system- they were never well developed to begin with and I'm sure will change with future upgrades breaking old code. If you can, use forums as your backbone.

Hmm ok, well it's good to hear you say that Social Groups are likely to go on being developed. In the meantime I'm afraid we're going to be using social groups a lot so I hope the boats dont sink! For now I guess we'll have to run a separate database alongside.
