Upgrading from 1.7.2 or Older?
If upgrading from 1.7.2 or older, you can uninstall all of the "Extended ... Libraries" plugins that aren't required for any other plugins.
You must overwrite the previous live_thread.min.js file when upgrading to 1.8 or newer, from 1.7.2 or older.

Doesnt work for me in either Firefox or IE, I have lots of other MODS installed but no idea where to start as far as what might be blocking it from working.
Disable them all and enable one by one until the live functionality no longer works. You can isolate the problem mod in this way.
You will have to check on your board. I haven't tested it against a lot of mods here; instead, I have coded it in a very non-intrusive way so that other mods don't have an effect on it. And no, I use Chrome primarily and it works fine (for me).
I'm happy to say this is working flawlessly. Thank you so much for this.

Found a bug, sometimes posts will display twice. Once I refresh it is fine though.
Looks like there are still too many bugs with this to install it yet.
Also it looks like it conflicts with other mods
Guess one has to remember that a lot of vB sites don't just run on the standard way it comes from vB but with lots of mods from here, so they need to work together as much as they can without other mods stopping them from working
It now appears to be working since I disabled iQuote, but each new live post shows up twice until the page is refreshed, then all is ok.
I have the same problem with the double posts until the page is refreshed.
Also, if I click reply with quote it will take me to a new page on posts that showed up live instead of allowing a quick reply on the same page. This is also fixed with a refresh as is Iquote.

It isn't really conflicts with other mods as much as just bugs to still be worked out with the product itself.

We are at 1.4.1 now, and it has always worked on boards with properly coded mods (to signify this, it works on lancerforhire.com [which is heavily modded, but done properly] and fresh installs no problem, not an error). To be making such a claim, you can't be a programmer. Don't talk about something you know nothing about, friend.

There are no public coding standards (or enforced ones at least) to prevent stuff like this from happening so conflicts are inevitable, especially for Javascript-oriented mods. I am simply making sure that this mod is not the cause and improving this mod as much as possible.
