How to: redirect to x-url after log in?

Can anyone assist with what I suspect would be a simple code to force members to visit a page of my choice once they log in?

e.g. they may be logged out and viewing thread123, they decide they want to respond so they use the navbar log in fields to enter their username & password.

Typically, they would see the page again refreshed to reflect that thy have logged in and able to respond.

I would like instead for all members to be redirected to a specific page (I'd like them to visit their control panel on log in). From there, they can do as they please, but I would like them to be made to see their cp page where I'm intending to add a few extra links.

I have no idea where to start with such a project, but I suspect many here would know how to apply such a set-up.
