Standard Editor / WYSIWYG Editor

Got the following problem / question
In one of my addons (Links and Download Manager from Andrew, who sady passed away) there are problems with the WYSIWYG Editor, which i want my users to use in the forums.
Somehow when using the WYSIWYG the text is not stored into the database, if i use standard editor it is.

Can someone give me a hint what the error could be ?
What are the differences in when reading the field to a variable ?
Is there a function to convert WYSIWYG Text into Standard before writing to database ?
