I hope this hasn't been asked before, but I couldn't find it.
I'd like to install vB4 Beta on my hosting service server in a different directory and have the Beta run off the same MySQL database and tables as the live site. Is this possible or practical? This would seem to offer a lot of advantages for testing the Beta with pre-populated tables. Both in style and function. Thanks in advance for your input. |

You can not run two copies of vbulletin.
You can have a development site but should not be accessible by the public. In other words password protect the dev copy. |

Ignoring the license issues for a minute, many changes are made to the 3.8 database during the upgrade to vB4, so it simply wouldn't work. |

Mark is correct - there were many database changes made for vb4 and you would not be able to run them both off the same database.

I would suggest taking a snapshot of your current 'live' database, and use that... you will at least then get a 'feel' for how your boards are going to look
