Upgrading now will mostly only give your site a few moe features and be a bit more secure, that's about it. VB usually goes through atleast about 7 to 9 betas before going gold so I wouldn't expect to go to vb4 gold for atleast a few weeks. If you don't mind upgrading then upgrading again in a few weeks sure go ahead and go to 3.8. If you just want to do it once, you may want to wait on it. Personally I saw just wait if you already on a live site.
I've been trying out vb suite for a bit with my team and now I have made a decision to just use the forums of vb4 and not the whole suite. The suit made everything about the site I didn't want.
