Thanks for the thought. I know exactly where you're coming from. However, I started this more concerned for him than for legal repercussions. It's not overly apparent from this, but he's in the US and I'm in the UK, so a legal repercussion is going to require quite a bit of effort, though it wasn't exactly uppermost in my mind.
We did give him a load of links to mental health resources in his region at the time (love Google!) and when we got hold of his family he was admitted as an outpatient, so he's getting treatment. We know we're amateurs at best, but I for one am not going to let him go without making an effort. If I'm damned in court for trying to save a life, so be it. Two nights ago was made awkward by him drinking as well - alcohol and anti-depressants don't play well together. We've let him know this is a bad idea. Pretty much all I'm doing is to listen to him when he's on a bad spiral - let him let it all out sort of thing. I can't provide advice, but I can provide a shoulder for him to lean on.
