Hi - I'm just wondering if there is a list of legal games anywhere (owners have given permission or games being open source or free of copyright)
I've read lots in lots of forums about the legality of the use of flash games in arcades such as this and I just need to know the games I'm using are legal due to the nature of the site I wish to insall the arcade on
I have no problem paying small fees for games either but they must be legitimate
Can anyone help please?
Thanks

That's just it though, I can't just assume it's OK
It;s clear a lot of the game sites don't check otherwise there would be no need for the comment about removing games if their inclusion is against the owners wishes
As I see things at the moment the current method seems to be to simply add games hoping the owners don't find out or complain and if they do they'll then be removed. The only problem is that by then they may have already been distributed to thousands of sites.
It all seems very dodgey to me and i've asked this question on a few boards and yet to be told any single specific game is legal to use and they have the owners permission,
I can't take any risjs as I say for the site I'm working on as it's a companies intranet (a sort of gaming chillout zone) and whilst it won't be accessible to the general public there is absolutely no way I could risk bringing the company any adverse publicity by using illegal games.
Maybe if the arcade isn't the truly legitimate way are there any other ideas for an online gaming/chillout type area?

If it's an intranet, that frankly, your worries are pretty much unfounded. But if you are looking for 100% legality... I can just say one thing; good luck, it's not particularly seen as a high consideration for the arcade mods and scripts out there. If you really want to be legally clear, I guess you could ask permission from the authors of every single game you download... although this could take a while, and it's as good a guess as any if they're say yes. Maybe Google any thought of games, then see if their site has a download for them and something saying how to add it to your site. That's probably a good sign of the game being legal.
I know the risk of being 'caught' is next to nothing as it will be on an intranet but that isn't the point really is it - it's my job and the company I work for and it has to be fully legitimate.
I didn't realise that some sites actually offer their games for download and inclusion on other websites though so maybe that is one line to go down - I don't suppose anyone has names that they could maybe pm me for me to check out first
