Importing news
We have a bouyant and busy forum news section.
However, it would be nice to automate the news. Basically, I would like to: a) create a NEWSBOT user. b) fetch news ( somehow ) from specific sites c) auto post the news as a New Thread, posted by NEWSBOT Is this possible, it sounds like RSS is the saviour, but being a bloody noob with rss, and parsing this as a thread.. is beyond me, but I am sure is totally dooable... Has anyone achieved this ? If so how so... can you help ? Cheers Big Ears Ste |

RSS Feeds are the answer. However, you will not get the full text from the site of the feed, just a blurb with a link to the original article on the original site.
You can play with it on your test site and see how it works. |

Im absolutely "virginal" with RSS as you may well know from previous questions Lynne.
My issue, I think.. is how to parse the rss feed into a new thread, automatically... this is the bit I cannot quite figure. |

Take a look at the RSS Manager - it has a default template right there for how the thread gets parsed. Just leave it all default when you first play with it and you'll see what it does.
