Default Sort Order / Forumdisplay

We are using vbulletin 3.8.2. We would like our users to be able to set their own (on a per-user basis) default sort order for ALL forums. We want our default site-wide to remain sorted by thread start date, by a subset of users would like to set their default to be last post date (threads with new posts bubble-up)

We used a modification in the past to accomplish it, but it stopped being supported because vbulletin implemented this funcitonality - but it seems they did not entirely.

Anyone have any links to possible mods, or better yet, a way to set this inside of vbulletin?
