To Drop Down or Not?
What do you all think of drop-down menus as the main navi bar of a website? We're creating a new site and I can't decide on a top drop-down menu or side menu
Thoughts? Thanks Gabby |

Dropdowns are good as long as you don't over-do them. I was on one site yesterday that every link in the navbar was a dropdown menu to something else and it just looked sloppy. So, I'd say 1 or 2 dropdowns are good, probably 3 at the most

Drop down menus have their place.. Suggestion: Make it function with just HTML and CSS, then add js if you need to (for delays and animation). That way it still functions if js is disabled.
Also, don't overkill. Like mentioned above, a lot of site owners feel that they can stuff hundreds of links, and several levels deep in navigation with drop downs. Don't make that mistake. Keep it simple. |
