custom editor button

hi everybody

i would like to make a button, similar in functionality to the link button
(a window to enter url, and wrap it with custom tags)
that will add a given url with custom tag wrap

i copied the code of createlink in textedit.js and modified it as needed, it's functions great in firefox, but not oppening the window in ie, and giving totally different result in chrome
(ex. URL=link instead of [hide]link[/hide] as in firefox)

i will appriciate any support,
