[BUG] Tournament Feature Severely Malfunctioning
Developer Last Online: May 2016
I'm having all kinds of issues with the tournament feature in the arcade, using the latest version the arcade and vB 3.7.0. Here are a few of the things that are happening:
8 Player Tournament: Somebody from the starting 8 players will win their match and their name will advance up the bracket in TWO spots. Once the match finishes below that 2nd spot, the problem seems to be corrected, so I don't think this is a huge issue, but it really throw people off and makes them wonder what's going on. 8 Player Tournament: I've got one tournament running now where it's down to the final two players. However, one of the two players is stuck one bracket down from the final match and I can't get them to advance. This issue I would really like to fix, as nobody is going to want to play in a tournament if it's just going to bug out before the final match. If this isn't a known issue, is there at least a way to manually correct it in the database? I checked the entries in vb_tournament_players and the top two players both appear to have the same rung # and everything. There must be something in another database that is causing one to stick in the previous rung. Any suggestions? The "Make the Winner Advance" link does absolutely nothing. 2 Player Tournament: In a 2-player tournament, Player A was prematurely declared the winner when Player B started his 3rd game. Player A had only played 2 of their 3 available games, but was holding the highest score so far. Once Player B started (not finished) their 3rd game, the "Play" link disappeared from Player A's box on the bracket and a PM notification was sent to Player A declaring them the winner. When Player B finished their 3rd game with a score still lower, another PM notification went out declaring Player A the winner. I'm not sure what would have happened if Player B ended up scoring higher. I'm assuming it would have made them the winner, even after crowning Player A prematurely. Again, this one seems to work itself out, but makes our arcade look very unreliable. Those are a few of the really noticeable bugs we're running into at the moment. There are other little quirks here and there that we've experienced (Such as not being able to remove the "King of the Arcade" or highest scorer names next to games on the main page), but we've found ways to work around those problems. Any suggestions or fix information would be greatly appreciated. Our users are loving the arcade, but these bugs are going to turn into a major deal breaker, especially the one with winners failing to advance. Thanks! --------------- Added [DATE]1212006534[/DATE] at [TIME]1212006534[/TIME] --------------- After more playing around in the database today, I figured a couple things out and fixed one of the above problems. The first issue I mentioned (player being advanced to TWO spots in the next rung of a tournament), was causing the second issue I mentioned (could not get a match winner to advance to the next rung). When the player from the tournament was incorrectly advanced into the next rung in two different positions, it created two separate entries for him in the database for that rung. Even though it looked as if the problem corrected itself, it resurfaced after the next match in the form of the rightful winner (the player who wasn't incorrected advanced to two spots) being stuck and unable to advance to the final rung and championship match. The solution? I simply deleted the duplicate record from the second rung. So, it seems that all three of the above issues are somewhat related. At the root of them all, we have players getting incorrected advanced into one, or two different ladder positions due to a bug in the system. Is this something that anyone else is experiencing? I'd really like to find a way to fix it so that I don't have to constantly monitor tournaments to fix the script's mistakes. Show Your Support

I am experiencing some of that, but overall my tournaments are functioning alright. The only problem I had was one tier in an 8-player tournament did not advance automatically, I had to click the make them advance link. Only happened once though. Everything else seems to be smooth sailing. We only have 8-player tournaments, so I can't comment on the 2 player issue.

The main problem for me as the developer is, that those bugs are not reproducable.
But I think of doing some "extended tournament logging" to get a log of what is going on in the tournaments and find the problem. I will inform you and need some testers then ... |

I'm curious where this stands. I see that the last post is almost a year old, yet tournaments still don't work properly.
--------------- Added [DATE]1242540078[/DATE] at [TIME]1242540078[/TIME] --------------- BTW, thank you very much, Tomeeboy! You're discovery of the double table entries in Rungs is going to be gold for my arcade!! |
