Editorial council, points system or colour symbol

Is there any system where a choosen answer by a person shows be on top. The superiority of the answer may be judged from the number of ups/thanks a post gets in a particular thread. This would help readers to read the most appreciated posts firsts rather than going through all of them as there are topics where the post count could go in hundreds.
