Disable some options for members
I would like to disallow members from being able to decline accepting e-mails from admins. I would also like to disallow members from being able to choose whether or not they are visible to other members or not when they are online.
In other words, I want all members to receive any e-mail that might be sent by an admin and I don't want members to have the option of being invisible to other members or not. How would I do this? |

Usergroup Manager > do for all usergroups you want > Can Set to Invisible Mode
There is no options to force them to accept email from admins. If you set it to Yes, they can just go set it to No. They can also just not use a valid email or use an email that they never check. |

Apologies, I wanted to set it so that members did not have the option of being invisible. I found it, "Can Set Self to Invisible Mode"- yes/no. Thank you Lynne. Won't they be able to reset this themselves just as they can the accept e-mail from Admins option from within their profile?
editing to add- is there any way from within the Admin Panel to force a member to add "reason for editing" comments when they edit a post? Might as well ask this too- currently we do not allow guests to post. When a person who is not registered views the board these locks appear to the left of each forum. Guests can read threads and posts, they just can't create posts themselves. Is there any way to remove those locks from the Admin Panel? I would think there would be a way to do so. This way guests don't appear at the site and think they can't read when in all reality they can't post unless they register. |

- If you don't allow the users to set themselves to invisible mode, then no, they can't go change it (the options won't be there in the User CP). However, if some users are currently set to invisible mode when you took the option away, they will be stuck in invisible mode.
- No, you can't force them to put a reason. (Maybe there is a modification, I don't know, you can try a search) - vboptions > forum listings display > show lock to users > no |

Thank you again Lynne.
I think we only had one who was using invisible mode. I checked given what you said. Incredibly, when I changed the usergroup permission it must have changed it in the user's profile too. Either that or he changed it back himself which is possible. Thanks for mentioning this though. If I run into someone in invisible mode, I will know to go to the usergroups to enable then go to a specific user's profile to disable it before going back to the usergroups again to disable it. Regarding the lock appearing- I went to the VBulletin Options. I found Forum Display Options. I am not finding Show Lock to Users. The options displaying for me are as stated in the manual: Enable Forum Description Maximum Displayed Threads Before Page Split Show Users Browsing Forums Highlight Threads in Which User Has Posted Hot Threads Enabled Hot Threads Qualifying Views Hot Threads Qualifying Posts Multi-Page Thread Links Enabled Multi-Page Thread Maximum Links Length of Thread Preview Text Group Announcements Separate Sticky and Normal Threads View Style Turn off sticky prefix in forum display Is it possible this option could be buried somewhere else? editing to add: Correction, I went back to the manual and found Forum Listings Display Options. It was under that. Sorry. |
