I have an event section for my boards and couldnt find a mod for 3.8 that would add the event to the calendar. I searched through the first 10 or so pages in the 3.8 mods section but didnt happen to see one. is there one available for 3.8?

Try using the mod for 3.7, the API for the calendar didn't change so it should still work.
