How to auto assign specific usergroup when registering
Hi there,
I have been searching high and low for this mod but seems no one is doing it. As I am not an IT geek, I would like to seek assistance if the request can be fulfilled. here goes: I host several forums but all sharing the same central database. Let's say a visitor is registering from forum A, I want that user to assign to a usergroup called "forum A usergroup", while another visitor from forum B, it will auto assign that user to "forum B usergroup". By applying such automation, I will be able to create private forums for specific usergroups. I believe this can be done by creating a custom profile radio button to select, and then when a visitor register, the script will automatically read the custom profile insertion and assign that user to the designated group. At the moment, I can manually login to admin and assign each user, for a small network it would probably be not a problem but I foresee tediousness and problems when the network is well established. your help would be much appreciated. Thank you. --------------- Added [DATE]1232544863[/DATE] at [TIME]1232544863[/TIME] --------------- hi there, wondering if any kind soul can help? I can only find this closest match but it is only for existing users after x number of days. https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=178069 |

This mod may help. Just do a little tweaking and it should do what you want (I think - I haven't looked at the code at all) - Add User to Primary Usergroup Based on Value of Custom Profile Field

Hi Lynne,
Thank you so much for your reply. However, I'm afraid I do not know how to modify the code that the link you gave me. I saw it earlier but thought that it is for earlier version of vb. I'm using 3.8 now. *** Removed *** Thanks. |

It is not that simple if you are using email verification upon registration.
If this is the case then the value of your checkbox will have to be saved so that it can be used once the member activates their account. I'm afraid you will have to create a small product to do this. |

Many mods for 3.5, 3.6, and 3.7 will work for 3.8. I just install them on my test board first to see if they work. You may want to read the modification thread and see what sort of comments people are making. They may say if it works for 3.8 or not.
