How about this for an idea???

Say you have a site where members download stuff for free, Or play your arcade for free, its a brilliant idea to keep members interested, but how about getting them to do something for you for a change, something that may enable you to generate a commision for all your troubles.

The idea is a delayed redirect, stopping on a page for XX seconds before going to the page that they want, be it the arcade or downloads.

So how would it work???

You have a link or tab set up to take your members to the arcade for example, But instead of going right to the arcade it goes to an alternative url, like one with banners or some sort of advertising on, with a small counter at the bottom, saying "This page will re-direct to the Arcade in 10 seconds" together with a countdown timer which counts back the seconds.

When it reaches zero, the page re directs to the Arcade.

That way members will be able to view your banners links and advertising, that they probably wouldn't do in the first place, so the probability of getting some clickthroughs via you ads has increased.

I guess the idea would be better suited for Guests and non registered members and showing them ads prior to going on a page that they want would definately get them to register.

Would something like this work?? I've done a search in the mods forum and couldn't find anything similar

However wouldn't it be great to make something up like this ourselves, perhaps advertise another site that we own or even have a whole page of banners which you could sell to other like minded individuals and businesses.

Here in the UK i use Buy.at and they have SKY Broadcasting on their books, I could set up a page on the benefits of SKY satelite, and get myself ?80 for every member that signs up via my link, another month i may do a page on Insurance and fill it up with Insurance company banners, Getting a member signing up makes me ?50-?75 dependant on what kind of insurance they have.

To me this is a far more profitable way, than adbrite, adsense etc.

Buy doing this ourselves we can control the type and rotation of the ads, Be it weekly or monthly.

The general idea in the end is to make maxium profit in the shortest space of time.

With Buy.at the most i've managed to make in a month is about ?160, having said that its not every month, that was about 3 months ago Normally i get a sale with some form of product so far this month i've made about ?35 from a ultility sale.

I prefer this type of advertising as its stuff that people need/want all the time, and the rates are great, better than Commission Junction.

Thats why something like this could work wonders if you want to gain some form of revenue from your site

Just gonna take a peek, what i was thinking of was something alone the lines of a countdown timer which you often see on download sites, They have the countdown for bog standard members but for VIP's they miss the countdown altogether

Another idea i had was perhaps using a topsite script and getting members transfered to that, for 10 seconds, whislt looking at my affiliate ads in the topsite list with the coundown underneath and going back to the requested page after XX seconds, Conditionals could be set to allow this to be shown to guests and unregistered members and perhaps a non paying usergroup. Premium members (I like that!!) will forefit the ads for a small yearly donation

Would something like this work????

The good thing about Topsite Affiliate ads is the fact that you can view how well they are doing, see how many hits they are recieving etc, the ones that gain little hits would just be replaced at the end of the month, Main aim of this idea is to make ????'s and $$$$$'s for the admin

You can achieve that by modifying my modification. However, you'll need to modify some of the URLs that are shown to the user to point to my script instead of straight to vBulletin or the modification.
