I would suggest in the top right hand corner in the post data. Maybe in the way of an icon or as DJ stated a text based image which would probably be better.
I know from experience I have to scroll back up in threads and check who is the author, Most of the time it's me who's the author.
Anyway, my suggestion on placement and the best location to insert the image would be in the top right hand side.
If this get's the go ahead, I'd be more than happy to design an image although I'm sure there are better designers who would like to also but I agree it should be consistent with the other images in the way of visuals.

Anyway, I noticed roms posted an effort so I guess I gave it a shot also.
Just a note, I don't require any linkback or any acknowledgement if on the offchance you find that you want to use these. Furthermore, Pending you use them I'll pass the psd onto a staff member.
