Default Please help me diagnose this annoying width problem

Hi,

Please see the attached screenshot.

I've combed through the postbit and SHOWTHREAD templates and can't determine what is causing this table to break out of my main table width.

Can someone please help me out?

Thanks in advance!

Is it like that on all show thread pages? or just one.

It looks like something is off in your postbit. Can you post a bigger picture or a link?

If its just one thread then its likely just someones signature or post. Sometimes setting your line break to high will cause it to stretch too.

Need more info.

Thanks for your swift reply, UncoderMom. I PM'ed you the URL to the board.

I think my problem is due to the fact that I've built a surrounding table with width=100% around the tborder table. Unfortunately the tborder contains spacers (which use the spacer_open template), which are set to the main table width (980px). The extra 12px on either side of the table is causing it to break out of the forum's 980px fixed width layout.

I think the problem lies somewhere in the SHOWTHREAD / spacer_open templates...

I've seen plenty of forums nest their tborder tables inside other tables to create the effect that I am trying to create. I wonder how they do it?

I'll have another go at it tomorrow, but please let me know if you have any suggestions :-)

Thanks!

It is breaking out about 35-40px (according to the screenshot) so it may not be spacer problem.

- You custom borders and starting and ending at wrong places.
- You should fibish your borders above the javascripts in the footer.
- There are lot of tags e.g. <td> <div> at wrong places.

Try fixing them.

Check your page at:

--------------- Added [DATE]1228836115[/DATE] at [TIME]1228836115[/TIME] ---------------

OK I put youe page through my editor and as soon as removed code in between the tags below table is not breaking out. So there is an error in your custom borders code.

<!-- custom border open -->

<!-- end custom border open -->

Hi Seven Skins, thanks for your help. I will have to revert all my templates and start again from scratch.
