Default Some help please for setting overall forum width post migration 3.6-3.7 and server

Hi all,

I need some assistance with the general layout of my new implementation of 3.7.4

My forums just underwent a massive transplant from one server to a newer one.

I made the 3.6 to 3.7 upgrade at the same time and changed the site logos etc

Now I am having many users complaining about the width of the site and the need for horizontal scrolling.

This is caused by the new width of the site logo but the original width of the banners.

I have been using 940x94 as a default banner size.

When I remove the right side site logo the problem remains so I have elected to retain it for now.

please have a look and see if you can assist me with the complaints I am getting about how all the other forums on the web are fine but arcHELI is not.

http://www.archeli.com.au/forums/index.php

I don't have the problem on any screen of 17" and with less than 1024 width there is a need to horizontally scroll but perhaps I can force the content of the main tables to ensure that people don't need to horizontally scroll to read content..

Best Regards,
Will

You seem to have 3 logos in your header template with the sizes being...

256px = header_logo_right.gif
256px = header_logo_left.gif
940px = perthrc_radio.jpg

I'm sure you can do the maths. If you removed one of the 256px images then users with a 1280 width res wouldn't experience any horizontal scrolling whilst 1024 & 800 width users would.

Higher resolution users wouldn't experience this issue because the total amount in width doesn't exceed your resolution which is the reason your not experiencing the problems that lower res users are experiencing.

edit What I would do is keep the left and right logos and redesign the center image (perthrc_radio.jpg) with a size of 512px which will total 1024 with the two other images. That way, your 1024 users are happy though 800 users would still experience the horizontal issue but who cares about them. That's what I would do Just lower the width (to the dimension i suggested) whilst still retaining the same height and simple overwrite the image. Problem solved.

Makes sense that way - I intended to resize all the banners eventually anyway but I had to move sooner than expected due to a hack on the old box.

What you say makes perfect sense but what I would like to try and ensure prior to the redesign and getting all the advertisers to resubmit or rescale their banners is to find out why the users with 1024-1280 res are having to horiz scroll to see the post bit contents...

Thanks very much for the assistance Shelley_c

whilst the logos are at the scale they are at they will still need to horizontal scroll in the postbit, thread display and pratically every page they visit.

I would suggest that you speak to your advertisers about re-scaling the images signifcantly so that atleast the 1024 users aren't having to scroll on each and every page.

I'm at a 1280 res using a 19 inch monitor and I have to scroll at this resolution.
