It looks like MySQLi is compiled with PHP and it is working correctly (otherwise, you would get connection errors). The issue here is that a modification author has decided to use the raw PHP functions, not the vBulletin wrapper database class (and has chosen to use the MySQL (not i functions). Therefore it does not work correctly.
