Default question - upgrading to 3.7.3 from 3.6.8

Hi guys,

I wondered what is the best way to upgrade from 3.6.x to current version given that I have a gazillion mods installed? Is it better to uninstall all products etc, revert all templates then upgrade and add back in what I want? Also the DB tables are created for some mods - they should not have a ill effect on the board if they are just sitting there and not being used by the uninstalled products right? Also is it correct that most 3.6.x mods will not work on 3.7.x?

thank you in advanced -

B

if your mods are without files and template edits, they usually go well with any upgrade... the problem is that detail... you have to track the hacks that require edits, and then you will see how hard will be any upgrade you make.

also note that you may have to upgrade all your products as well, and some were updated with less files/templates edits...

well one thing I can tell you that most of the 3.6 mods WILL work on 3.7.x
You also have to update your style

I know that they style is a pain (reverting all templates, then adding back custom items)

But I just wanted to do the upgrade with the least amount of time consuming work possible. To do this I was willing to start all over with a fresh install if need be...

boy, upgrades are a pain eh?

The best thing is to do it all on the test site first so you can see the problems there.

I have a test site, but it hits a seperate DB, I could copy the files over and copy the DB and renew it etc....guess that might be the best way to go first to make sure that I have all the mods that I have currently installed.

Of course it has a separate db (it better, or you could cause trouble on your main site!). You can take a copy of your current main site db and restore it to your test site along with all the same files. Then your test site is a 'copy' of the main site.
