This is generally a client-side option. Look for an option to use "LIST -al" or if there's an option for LIST parameters, set "al" (or "-al" depending on your client).

If that doesnt work, ssh in and set the options listed below

nano /etc/vsftpd.conf
force_dot_files=YES

or if using pure-ftp

nano /etc/pure-ftpd.conf
Displaydotfiles yes
