The reasoning for the team layout being made into columns is because each column represents a division.

ATLANTIC - NORTHEAST - SOUTH EAST
CENTRAL - NORTH WEST - PACIFIC

Its something that a lot of people on our site are used to from a forum that used to have it as well.

Personally I get what you're saying,and I thank you for it, but there are specific reasons for it.
