Default run code on every page

guys, i've another question: i saw in some hacks that i've already installed onto my board i've these options: 'run code on every page' or 'run code only on forumhome' ... i know what means this , but i don't understand what is the difference between the two options ...

for example: take the PM's tracking guests add-on ... i've these options, so what's the difference?

thanks

If you have questions/problems with a modification or style, then please post in the thread (or support forum/board) about that modification/style. Best chance to receive a reply from either the author or another member using the same modification/style.

I believe he was using an example of an hack, and not asking for support for a specific hack.

Well, if set to display on all pages, then the code will run on every default vBulletin page. If set to run on forumhome only, then it will only display on your forums index. Or do you mean something totally different?

He is asking about some specific hacks that have an option labeled as he states in his first post. What enabling/disabling such an option will do depends on the specific modification. So giving a generic answer is useless.

All we can do is assume that it does what the description say, but if that is the case then why need to ask?

my big fault is that i don't speak/write correctly Marco ... i used the PM's add-on only like an example ... but others hacks has the same option ... so i posted here cause i don't want spam over all the hack's threads that have this option ...

however HERE i asked to Paul, and Bob gives me a reply ... but i still don't understand what is the real difference ...

i think my example was 'clear' (really? ) so i ask to you here again:

like you know some hacks has the possibility to select if you wanna run the code onto only onto forumhome or all the pages ... BUT what's the difference between the first and the second option? i mean this if i select 'all pages' the results are:

1) OK: it generates queries over all the pages (like Bobby told me)
2) ?: can i grab all the spiders (i use track guests hack only for example, but like you see i've asked to Paul onto 'who posted' cause it has the same options) onto EVERY page and get the result onto the index box? or if i select run only onto forumhome i can grab only the spiders that are lurking over my index?

and what about 'who posted'? i don't think that is possible posting something over the index ... so i still don't understand ...

it's a general question, not an issue, i just wanna know ... nothing more, nothing less ...

OK, I think I see what you are asking. If you run the code on all pages it will run them on whatever page you are on at the time. It will not let you add up all pages on put the totals in the What's going on box on the forumhome. It only runs on the page you are on at the time. It you only run it from the forumhome, then that is the only page the code would show up on. Is that what you meant?

nearly Bob ... (thanks for the patience)

keep in mind: this concept is really hard for me ... also if is explained in italian ...

OK, you said: it runs on whatever page, but what is the real advantage of this? if i can't get anything onto WOL box or onto whatever page that these hack make (you know that these hacks make a statistic or tracking pages) then i still don't understand what is the utility to select 'run on all pages' ...

maybe if i run the code over all the pages i can get the tracking/statistic results faster? or what? i really don't understand ...

I only run them on my forumhome as that is the only page I am concerned about most of the time as far as ant stats goes. Running it on every page allows you to see whatever stats for the hack are on whatever page you are on, but only for that page. If you have enough users on he site that can add a lot of queries. You will never get a total for all pages on any page. Only for what is going on for THAT page. I'm not sure how else to explain it if that doesn't do it. I'm too old and stupid to be learning another language.

I can only repeat myself: Please ask in the thread of the modfication you are trying to use.

What happens when a setting (any modification specific setting) is activated depends on how the modification is coded. A real answer can only be given by the mod author.
