when you create a usergroup there will be a category called Public group settings. In that category there is an option called (Joinable) Custom Usergroups. Click yes on that box and then go to admincp>usergroups>Usergroup manager>Go down to the public group and on the right you will see a drop down box. Choose it there.

Ok.. no wonder it wasn't showing up.. ok got it thanks!
Another question with this.. one a user is in that group and they are showing up as a specified color of that group under the "current users online" area.. I've seen a few sites if you run the mouse over their name it brings up the little prompt of what it stands for or the group name for example..how do I set the mouse over part?
