Upgrade - Templates New/Old
Just a quick question. I'm upgrading to the latest version and want to manually change my templates. When I click View History beside a template on the Updated Default Templates page the new template (for 3.7.1) is listed as the "old" template, and the one I customized long ago (3.6.0) is listed as the "new" template. See the attached image.
My mind wants them the other way around lol. I see where I can change the new to old, and the old to new, and that's what I do for the sake of clarity (so when I compare them, my old template is in the "old" column and the new template I'm upgrading to is in the new column). My question is, why is the old template that I customized long ago being shown by default as the new template, and should it be? |

More on comparing templates can be found here but in short if you customize templates, upgrading vB does not overwrite those changed templates so if you want the latest templates, you need to revert the changed templates. More information about templates can be found at the following links:

Thanks for your help Calorie!
I've been all through the manual but I'm afraid it isn't very clear on answering my question. I understand that the upgrade doesn't change customized templates, and that I probably need to either revert them or manually change them. I choose to do it manually, so I can make sure the customizations are done exactly as they were. It's when I go to compare the two that it gets confusing, since the old template (old by date) is listed as the new one, and vice-versa. Now, granted I can switch them myself, and I do. But is that the right way to do it, or does it even matter? I'm not being very clear, let me put it into example. If you bought a car made in 2008, and you already had a car made in 2006, which is the new one? The 2008 of course. So why is my 2008 dated template listed as the old one in the admin, while my 2006 template is listed as the new one (see the image I attached in my first post). I'm probably making a mountain out of a mole hill here, but it is lending to a lot of confusion as I edit my templates. |

The "old" one gets the new tag because it is the current template being used basically.
Copy and paste the "old" template into a text editor. Hit the revert template button, and then compare the "old" with the new 3.7.1 template |
