Site Schemes
I am just two inches from opening my site but need to know what color schemes are the best? Have you found more users registering using a light or dark colored skin?
It seems much of all sites are going dark, is there a reason for this? |

My own designs for personal use tend to be on the dark side. I just find it easier on my eyes. Darker styles tend to better suited to hobbyist sites like gaming and automobiles (or for musicians, like my site in my signature, which I designed with glossy black grand pianos and Les Pauls in mind).
It's all personal preference, though. Despite my own preference, I think most people find dark text on a light background easier on their eyes. There is plenty of room in the middle ground, however. Neutral colors with mid-tone brightness levels work well, and can satisfy lovers of both dark and light themes. |

the most important thing when choosing colors for your site is contrast between text and background (black on white is best - or similar colors)

I prefer dark I've offered several different skins to my members. Did a poll about a year ago because I wanted to cut a skin or two out. 78 % used the default VB skin. The one dark one I liked and thought was so cool had 3 users out of 3000 active members. The bottom line is content, what do you have that people need.
