Repeated login request upon posting a reply

I have a forum running using VB 3.6.9.
We have experienced intermittent problems with a repeated request to login, while attempting to post a reply to a thread. If someone is logged on with appropriate permissions to post a reply to a thread (as indicated by the icons, and certainly not restricted in any way), SOMETIMES they are able to post a reply, and other times they are refused. The login screen comes up repeatedly.
Any ideas?

More info - I have a user account on our forum with admin access rights, and also can use the super-admin account. When I am logged in as my user account, and then click on one sub-forum in particular, it goes to that forum and automatically switches my login over to the super-user account (which I had used a few minutes prior in a trial). Why would it do that? I guess this is why sometimes it switches to a non-user also, resulting in no access rights.

Disable your modifications and clear your browser cache. See if that helps with the issue.

Also check your cookie settings/timeout.

Thanks for the ideas! Here is how it went:

Cookie setting/timeout - still set at 900 default (15min)

Disabled the "Cyb Chatbox" mod - didn't appear to make any difference. However I did notice that the "Active user cutoff time" was 30min, so was hoping that it might. (This chatbox uses the VB login name to control access to the chatbox)

Still having the problem of my current-user (top right) switching between my normal registered username, and being not logged in at all (if I switch between a sub-forum, and then back to the top level). If I log out, then elect to go back to the same page as I was on, it logs me back on again automatically. Sometimes I log on, it appears to accept my information, then shows up as me not being logged on anyhow (with no error message).

For the above problems, if I refresh the page it will fix things for a while. If I clear my browser history that also helps for a while.

It is obviously some sort of cookie/cache setting, but how do I fix it permanently? It is also happening for other users.

It is a very new installation of VBulletin, so I am very new at this... Any thoughts appreciated!

Did you leave your cookies settings default ("/" and "(blank)")? Or did you change them? Are some of your links going to www.yoursite.com and you are logged in at yoursite.com?

Hi Lynne. Cookie path is set at "/" and blank (ie. default).
Our main homepage is www.thestampshak.com, and our VB forum is at www.thestampshak.com/forum
Often don't go through the main homepage - just to the forum site (certainly for the problems above). No login ability at the main homepage anyhow...
Should I leave the cookie setting, or use the other path of "/forum"?

Just found another thread with exactly the same problem - 169920.
Will try the style thing, plus disabling the mod for a longer period of time to ensure timeouts on everything...
