Default Images in Database - File System Problem

It is a long story how we got to this point, but here is the question.......

What .php file or where in VB do you modify the code to let VB know that the images are on the server and not in the database?????

When we switched databases we had previously moved to a file based system....

Then we had to reinstall the database and re-perform the upgrade and in the admin it still thinks the files are in the database when they are not, they are currently in a folder on the server....

How do we tell the admin that the attachments are not in the database....

I can't rebuild or do anything with the admin since it does not realize they are already on the server....

Not sure how to explain this exactly...

Thanks in advance for any help.....

If you go to admin panel >> attachments >> attachment storage type

That will tell you where they are located.

Thanks,

Yes, the admin currently says the database, that is the problem... they are on the server at the moment....

They are all on the server in a folder.....

The posts show that the attachments are there, but they are not finding them...

My programmer can't find the file to let the admin know that were moved....

Basically I screwed this up and my programmer who normally does OS Commerce and is well versed in .php is trying to fix this for me...

He did the database stuff and I did the upgrades etc.....

Well, he thought I was upgrading the original forum and not the new forum on a new server... So I ugraded the wrong VB...

I will be closing the old forum, but it has been a big mess with the images being stored in the database - 2500 images... The export of the database was a big pain....

So we just emptied the attachment table in the old forum......

Then he imported the database on the new server....

So the first thing I did on the new server was switch from database to the server for attachments...

Everything went perfect... Attachments showed up fine...

Then I went ahead and did the upgrade to the newest version....

Everything was perfect and fine......

After much testing we decided to close the old forum - which had no attachments in the table and bring the most recent database to the new forum....

Then I had to upgrade the forum again... (I was told that is where I screwed up.)

But it was the only way to get back to square one....

Now I have an upgraded VB (registered of course) all of my attachments on the server and the admin still is thinking they are on the database, when they are not....

My programmer could probably explain it better...

But some where in the hard code, we should be able to make the switch....

As a side note, we can probably extract that table out, but with the upgrade, it changed the database and table structure - that table took over an hour to import, because it was so large... From a programmers persepctive, he would rather just change the code to make the file path recognized that the attachments are on the server.

You might want to post over at vbulletin.com about this. They may be better able to help you figure out how to fix this.

Ok, this forum is much easier to search and gather help.....

I will go check over there, but you try to search once and it says try back in .20 seconds, when you just log in....

Then you can only search every .20 seconds... Makes fixing a problem very frustrating...

I will go and check...

Thanks

David

This is not as easy as it may look on first sight. You say that at 1 point you still had the attachments on the file system, but emptied the attachment table in the database. If so, then it will be very hard to rebuild, as you have lost the relation between the attachment-id in the filename and the attachments-id as aspected by vBulletin.

Posting at vb.com or a support ticket might be your best option.

Well, they were able to give me the steps to fix this and it is working now....

So I would prefer not posting th answer, because it does involved adding a small piece of code to the config.php file which allows you to change files in VB which are not normally showing...

So if you are in the same spot, go search the same thing on vbulletin.com
