Upcoming Events var?

How come I can't take the

$upcomingevents

var and add it to basically any page?

*** Alrite, Here is one more looking for the same thing. I need to display upcoming events on every page in the forum in the left side column that I already have.

bump....I'm looking for this as well. I have ultimate side columns installed and wondering how to put in one of the blocks for upcoming events to show up instead at the bottom of the forum homepage where nobody see's the information.
