You don't need to modify anything. I have the same thing for my members and my "Gold Members" who also pay. lol.
Just go to
Admin CP -> User Ranks -> Add New User Rank and then add the mini avatar url in the
User Rank File Path field. Add the ranks to the respective group(s)..Oh yea set it to 0 posts minimum for the VIP members. After just Update user titles by going to your Rank manager and clicking the update link or if you can't find that, enter this [
http://www.yoururl.com/admincp/misc.php? ...changing the url to w/e yours is.
So basically they can show their custom avatar and your image at the same time.
