AME - Auto Media Embedding (youtube, Amazon, google, myspace, etc...)
Developer Last Online: Jan 2019
From the inventors of Swiss Cheese and the Egg comes AME - The Automatic Media Embedding System.
Note that Version 2.0.0 can be found here AME is derived from GAL 6 base code but instead of linking keywords, it converts URLs that users paste or enter in their posts into inline embedded video streams. Big credit goes out to mfyvie for the original concept that jazzed me up enough to lift code that I have been working on to radically improve his fresh idea. Though the same goal, I have taken a totally different approach to his initial release. This mod is 100% steaming fresh code straight from the Geeks oven of love. First... the overview AME scans new and edited posts for pre-defined patterns of URLs (i.e. youtube's). If it finds a match, it swaps the url tag for an ame tag. When a post get parsed for bbcode and an ame tag is found, instead of hammering away at the post with umpteen bbcodes, AME quietly figures out which pre-defined embedding should be placed there and... viola', you have a pretty little embedded video like this: Attachment 66927 This is significantly faster, has much lower overhead and is much easier to manage than loads of bbcodes or a than scanning every single post as the user views it to see if there are any conversions that need to be made. Now for the bells and whistles AME:
Add ons AME comes configured with YouTube, Myspacetv, Google Video, Bolt, iFilm, Yahoo, Dailymotion, Amazon and MetaCafe Support built in. Since the amount of providers are always changing and most sites will only need a particular amount, AME has been designed with an import and export system to allow members to easily share formats with one another. In fact, the second post of this thread is updated periodically to relflect those add ons. Currently there are over 12 more additional formats contributed by AME users. Click here to see them. Troubleshooting See this post on troubleshooting A note about support and such I have my plate pretty full with taking care of my commercial mods and the support that comes with them. Saying that, I will help when I can - but to be honest, I have ensured that there should be little to no support needed on this mod as it is very much self contained. Please do not PM or post asking me to give you regexp's to support additional media streams. I built the system so that you can add your own providers as well as the ability to import and export them. If you still need a pattern but are not great with regular expressions (who is?) then I suggest getting RegExpBuddy. Although I am not expert at regular expressions, I did a quick start tutorial on AME regexps here if you want to check it out. I don't mind you guys asking amongst each other for these things, but just note that I will most likely not respond to the requests. I will reserve the first couple of posts in this thread to periodically add user contributed patterns to import and for additional information (I hate mega long first post's in the release section). So check there for up to date information. nJoy Show Your Support

This is my first add on and I have no idea what I'm doing! I'm stuck.
When I go to the download/upload plug'ins area, it shows anymedia there. when I go to manage plug-ins, it is there and I can click edit. So I'm sort of there. The third step where we are supposed to enter the code under edit is confusing. I just copied and pasted each of the codes in one long string into the install code box and hit saved.....and it said it was successful and came back to the edit page and then there was nothing in the box any longer. Is that right? I went to my forum and put in the code for [MEDIA]http://myURLwmv[/MEDIA], but it didn't work...is that what I am supposed to do? Where do I specify who can download it? I do not see any new places in my admin area. |

So I'm having some issue with this mod. If I enable the plugin, when people us the quick reply box and include images, the posts never post. If they cut the text and paste it into the advanced editor, the posts work just fine.
I did notice when I was installing AME, when I did a test of the database modifications any post with any IMG was listed as a post that was going to be changed.. but I looked at the before and after and they were identical, as is to be expected --but why is AME even looking at this? I'm sure this is all a misconfiguration issue on my part, I first opened an admincp less than a week ago and the forum I'm the admin on just started.. less than a week ago. any help? |

WOW! Thanks *so* much for this, hotwheels! That's great!
Any chance it can be tweaked to take advantage of hulu's (unique) ability to allow sharers to specific clips (ie: start and end point) within the video? A timeline is available on Hulu's "Share" screen, where you get the URL. For example, I did this with the Breakfast Club sample here: After dragging the start and end points, the default sharable URL (http://www.hulu.com/watch/1517) became: http://www.hulu.com/watch/1517#2260:2415 |

So, I am taking the plunge and converting my forum from AnyMedia over to AME. I've got AME working and I am very happy with it. Thanks for all the great work, The Geek and all the plug-in contributors!)
My question now is, how to convert old links embedded by AnyMedia? On my forum, I'd set AnyMedia to use the universal "[media]" tag for all video links. (Most of them were YouTube or Google Video.) I notice the "Convert codes" in the Tools section of the AME CP, but unless I am missing something, that will convert all of the URLs with the media tags to that of one video site. There's no way to keep YouTube videos set for YouTube and Google Video's for Google, for example. Is that right? Is there any way to convert the old URLs inside the [media] tag intelligently, so that each video site's URL is retained? If not, I may just have to keep AnyMedia activated, but encourage folks to start using AME instead (ie: not using the [media] tag any more.) Curious to hear any and all feedback. |
