Modifying Your Backups
Hello to all...
I want to create a backup of i site i have previously had.. I am using the backup of that now on http://vacf.com.au if you wish to know why i want a custom one made... (ie check the link at the very bottom... Basicly im worried that all this will cause trouble in the future... SO... I wanted to do the following: Create a backup with only the following: Catagories, Posts, Threads Members (not their personal settings though.. conflict with gxboxlive mod) Groups.. This i will need to remain in contact if i can.. No mod conflict... and i think that is it... Well here is a screenshot of the options i can choose.. there is a few.. but i just want the things above only to copy.. none of the board settings templates.. etc... Cheers: IMAGE** - http://vacf.com.au/images/backup.png (too big for attatchment ) Dont know if this is double post... my computer froze just after i pressed add.. I cant find the otyher post anywhere so i guess not.. If so i apologise please delet.. But i couldn't find the other one :S |

Upload the whole backup (yes, everything) into a new database. Then use ImpEx to import what you want.

Thanks dismounted
*** I FOUND IT! *** Thanks again --------------- Added at 17:21 --------------- Okay now i think i need to specify again... This board was on a different web adress.. I took that sql.. Reinstalled bVul on my new domain (fresh start) and then reloaded the sql.. The problemthat i got though was that i also copied all the plugins etc too from the databse.. This just reaked havoc with the databse.. (view http:://vacf.com.au and look at the bottom at the Vlexo Australia Community etc...) that should only say VACF... The only way i can now see doing this import is by installing two copies of the same vbul on different file paths... Which i believe is HIGHLY ILLEGAL... Or am i wron.. can i install two copies and delete one once the copy is done? If i am allowed... Which one do i run the importer from... The NEW vbul or the current vBul... as far as i know it would be the NEW (duplicate) install Please let me know as i am reallly confused.. Is there a way (if i cant have a duplicate for an hour or two) to mesasge someone and ask for permission to do this? and email maybe? I would like to thank you in advance for reading this.. |

Just copy the old database into a blank, brand new one. You don't even need to upload the old files. Simply install one instance of vBulletin to ANOTHER database. Then use ImpEx and import all the information from the FIRST database.

Okay so as long as the other database (ie demo_databaseold) is there will be okay to remove the copy i have installed... Just install it to a new (demo_database new + new install)
Then i install Impex to the new board... Then i edit the Impex config to say: ie $impexconfig['target']['database'] = 'demo_databasenew'; and the other $impexconfig['source']['database'] = 'demo_olddatabase'; Correct? Thanks soooo much for this Dismounted. You have helped immensely! |
