I've created a private forum where only approved members can enter. Though I'd also like to have a password available to select users so they won't have to wait for approval. We can advertise this password in our targeted marketing campaign.
That way they can register at their convenience and access private forums immediately using the password until we can promote their membership. But it looks like the way passwords are used with Vbulletin, are they can only be used by people who already have permission to the private forum, and the password is just an added security measure. Is this correct? |

Yes that is correct. Once the entered the password, regular permissions will still apply.

I hate to complain, but that's kinda bass-ackwards. If a specified user already has permission to access a forum then password verification is a little unneccessary. Granted, that would depend on how classified you'd like to keep it's information. But the password function would have more uses if you could also allow it to permit, as of yet, unauthorized members to enter.
Anyone know of a hack for this? --------------- Added at 02:04 --------------- What would be nice also is for the unauthorized user to be able to request membership to the private group directly from the page blocking their entrance to the forum. |
