Why become a VB.org coder?
Hi!
I was just wondering, what are the benefits of becoming a VBulletin.org coder and offering supported hacks? I notice a lot of people say "support this hack by clicking install", do they get something in return? Thanks, -Gaz |

I started releasing my hacks on vbulletin.org to show off my work. As time progressed I learned more about vBulletin's coding from improving my hacks with suggestions from other users. I had to read tutorials and ask for help but as time moved I got more familiar with the code.
I'm positive that I would not know as much as I do now if I didn't release my hacks and try to improve them. The reason people say "support this hack by clicking install" is because they are greedy. The only thing they get in return is a higher install count but there is a button titled "Uninstall" that can pressed at any time. You can click "Install" then ask for help and click "Uninstall" when your problem has been resolved. |

I dont think the install thing is greedyness, its the least users can do for the coder in return for free hacks. The more installs you have, the better portfolio you have

Clicking install is a show of support for the coder's work. It also informs you of any updates to the mod and a way for the coder to send members who have clicked install a PM or email notification that their product has been updated. |

Clicking install shows interest.
Say 500 people install a modification, but only 10 click install... the author looks at it, and only sees 10 installs which implies: 1) he shouldn't bother further improving it 2) he only has to check it once a week for support issues If you were an author, would you spend more time pleasing the users of a mod with 1000 installs, or one with 37? |

Personally I would always click install, I get emails all the time about updates and it's very usefull. Well if all of these mods are indeed supplied and supported for free hats off to the coders! I'll have to start using the donate buttons more often
Wow cool, I think it is still nice to make a donation as well as an added bonus though. |

And it's easy to see where your works are being used.
I don't see what's so greedy about it. |

By clicking install you get notified of updates or potential security problems with a mod.
