old school - vB 2.x question :) forumjump is causing problems.
ok.. a client wants a vB site with about 150,000 categories in it.. I'm actually fairly close to pulling it off in theory.. i've had to extend the length of all ID fields to handle the large reference numbers, as well as modify the admin to only show you one level of the cat tree at a time..
here is the problem du jour. if I turn off the forumjump (takes it 30-40 seconds to populate, as well as totally dogging the mysql server), then my forum nav quits working. You click on a category and it just treats it like a forum and takes you to a post page, rather than drilling down into the subcategories. It's as if the queries under the makeforumjump() function are somehow tied to the overall navigation. I can't find the relationship and wondered if anyone else might know how those two things are intertwined.. I had to use version 2 because v3 caches and there's just no way it would have worked.. the vB folks told me my only chance was to make v2 work, so just so no one replies for me to upgrade.. i can't do that.. thanks much |
