If you want a page to be your main homepage for www.example.com, then that page needs to be name index.html index.htm or index.php and place it in your main public_html folder or in the index file redirect to the desired page.

Also note that if your forums are already currently your www.example.com, then you will need to either move your forums to another folder/directory.

Also note that a host can have apache answer in a certain order, some have index.html as the first listed index file to look for, so you can put a index.html in the same folder as the forum, then have links from that page to your forum or redirect after 5 sec's.
