Why isnt it cheaper to renew?!
Hey,
I currently have a yearly license for roughly $90 Australian, i am only earning $7.00 an hour, i wish to keep my vbulletin license without going broke! I still need to pay for things like my own phone line, broadband connection and i urgently need a new motherboard, graphics card and sound card, totalling at 1,300$~. I was wondering, shouldnt the renewal process be cheaper for us yearly people? For example, why isnt it just 50$ or something like that? Or maby upgrading is just 85$? Instead of having to pay 160$ for a permanent licsense, current license holders can upgrade for 85$! It would increase the sales and give you yet another good point that IPB doesnt have, some of my friends bought IPB and not vBulletin because IPB was $5 cheaper. Regards, Jay |

It's $30 if you own a license. Right now you are leasing a license ($85/year) instead of paying 160 or so once, with the $30 renewal fee.

It isn't cheaper to renew because you're not renewing a leased license technically. The license is good for one year and after that year is over you need to buy a new leased license. We just try to make it easier by calling it a renewal.
Also all new lease purchasers get the ability to upgrade to an owned license within the first 60 days for $85.00. |

Buy an owned license, then every year when you upgrade it's only $30 to renew.

It has always been cheaper just to go with an owned license and renew when necessary than to keep renewing a leased license. I personally think that anyone should just go for the owned one if they plan on running the forum for more than 2 years, because after that a leased license is just a huge amount of extra cost. But yes, it's expensive simply because, to a much extent renewing a leased license is the same as buying a whole new leased license.

To keep getting updates after the first year, you must pay $30 for each year of updates afterwards. So say vBulletin 4 comes out soon, and your license runs out beforehand, you can keep running the older versions for free, but need to pay $30 for the next year of updates to get the latest version. And so repeat for eternity aftwards.
