Style Children not working
I've modified the default style templates a bit, and now I have created a child style of the default style for use with specific forums. I changed it so the forums I want will use the child style, and the rest will use the parent style.
Now, despite my best efforts, I cannot get any changes to only apply to the child style. I always click the expand button on the child style when trying to only edit that style. I have tried only having the child style checked before clicking to edit the templates. No matter what I do, changes are applied to both templates and I can see the changes on all forums. The template I am editing is SHOWTHREAD. I would like threads to show differently on these specific forums. I DO have the correct style selected for each of the forums in the forum manager. Is there a trick to this that I am missing? Thanks |

I have found that if you even open a template in a child style and not do anything it will consider itself modified to that style and not take the up dates that you make on the parent style. Also sometimes the style that you have installed could just have a different template in that area and not change. I find that happens with postbit and navbar templates alot

Hi Asilouhuette,
Perhaps a screenshot of your Styles and Templates page when you are doing the editing would help. Are you certain the new style has the old style as a Parent? Are you certain you are editing the new style's SHOWTHREAD template? Are you certain that the forums have had the new style defined as their Style? |

Hmm..
One thing jumps out at me. Nobody but yourself (or other admins) will even be able to use the Default Style, as the tick is missing. |

I've made sure they were selected now. (I at one point thought they might have something to do with which style was being edited, but I now see that it shows at the top of the template list.)
Still though, I have the same problem. I have, however, found that the two styles are changing separately. Eg, when I change the child, the parent is not modified, which is how it is supposed to work I think. It still appears that the child is *always* used when the forums are rendered though. |

Update:
It appears that it is working, and may have been all along, kind of. As long as I am NOT logged in as Administrator, everything looks exactly as it should. All other accounts, and guests, view it correctly. Administrator seems to be using the child always. I don't have user selectable styles enabled, so it is a little strange. I'll have to keep an extra browser open for testing. On a side note, I have two styles, Default and child of Default, but the child shows up as style 3 rather than 2. I once deleted the child and created it again trying to figure out this problem, which may have caused it to go up a notch, is there anyway I can reassign it to style 2 and remove style 3? Just for consistency's sake. Thanks. |
