Restrict Same Username as same registration item.
As I have seen a growing number of spam incidents on my site I can only imagine the attacks on other sites. One thing I noticed: I have a field that's required for registration, "How you heard about my site", the spam bots use their user name for this field. So, could someone possibly create a condition or something that prevents using same information? That would be very helpful!

Why do that when there's already all these other mods that are out to help prevent spam bots from registering? I think it'd be just a waste of time and effort

it is a good spam detection actually... did not notice this before, but it is a good point to target... bots are always refering to them when they answer robotic questions...
it can be an easy tweak for this matter only... can be 3 or 4 lines long for a hack... i can provide that tweak on my site (siggy) tomorrow |

Wait.. I have to pay for it? When all the mods on this site are free? I'm confused.

vb.org is free...
not ALL the mods here are free anyway... most of the unanswered requests find their answers in the service request forum, where people will pay coders for their needs... i provided an answer to your hack, it is not vb.org that provided it, so it is not vb.org to be blamed... you don't want to pay the membership on my site, no problem... my site is a commercial provider of services... you can always continue tu ask about your needs here and wait for someone to code a free alternative. i do not force you to pay for it... |
