Is this done by an option already in vB or a hack? I've tried searching google, this site, and closest I seen was a hack made for vB 2.0 and it was an archived thread.
I'm just missing it I guess ![]() Thanks for any advice. |

I believe you can do it from AdminCP...

Only way I've heard of to let users change their own name is as an option in various shop hacks. Letting users change their name freely is bad. It causes confusion and pandemonium. Also, the threads and forums would get out of sync.

there's a very basic mod available for 3.5 and above to allow username changes, but it lacks any type of "history" logging. i wouldn't recommend letting users change their names. What I would recommend, instead is two things:
1. edit your registration templates (or phrases) to ensure they are fully aware that their username is permanent. 2. take advantage of the now-built-in (an original mod once contributed by myself) username regex check on new registrations to prevent crap like [---d00d---] and |< () R |\| |

I understand why you guys would suggest not to allow this, but for my forum it is essential. I run a pool league, where members change their username/playername very often. I have run my current forum like this for 5 years now with no problems. I just recently bought vB and am currently working on switching my old forum to vB.
Threads and forums do not get out of sinc by changing usernames, as they go by userid. Thank you MisterPopularity for your reply, I will search again for this mod....though I couldn't find it before. As for logging the changes, that's not needed for me ![]() |

What I mean is that the username displayed will get out of sync.
