I need a mod to hide group memberships in members' profiles. This is a privacy issue so I am not really concerned with the whole "Group memberships" box in the profile displaying by default but I do want to be able to hide membership to specific or all groups.

Do you mean that you want group memberships to only be seen by people in usergroup X (and maybe the user who's profile it is), or that you want the usergroup Y to not show on anyone's profile?

I am still looking for this.

I have "public" groups that are joinable, but the members need to remain private. Is there a way to do this?
