Is there anyway to do logging on who is 'Searching' the forums for what?
I would love to know if there is...since Searching the forums is a very server intensive process.. I have over 270,000 posts on my forums and i can see my MYSQL process rising whenever someone does a search. If i could find this information out, i could quite possibly find the culprit (registered user) on who is using it much more then others. If anyone knows how to do this or if there is a Mod that can be added to reveal this info, this will be much appreciated. thanks Mike |

I can't answer the specific question you asked; I don't know of a hack to log this activity for you.... so maybe someone else can post that or devise a simple logging hack here.
In the meantime, you can find out "what" people are searching for by using this hack: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=61424 As you get a good "feel" for the stuff they need to find, you could make that information more prominent either in topical forums or expanding any FAQ file you might be using. If the problem is really somebody messing with the site by making frequent and pointless searches, then you and your other admins/mods could monitor your resources during random/varying times of day then just make note of who's online at the time when it happens. After a few days or a week or so, you'd be able to narrow down the list of "suspects." |

Thanks Talisman. That seems like a good enough Hack. I just wonder if it works with 3.5.4? The last post on that thread only says something like 3.0.7
And im also curious as to where this data is displayed. admin CP? I would prefer it to only show in an Admin area. |

I'm so sorry... here's the update of the hack for all current 3.5 versions: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=95270
The last 15 results are shown on the search page for all to see, but only admins will see the member names who did the searches. |

I like this mod and use it as well (the second one posted), but would also be interested in something that logs searches over a longer time period...would give me a good idea of the kind of stuff my members are looking for so that I can provide more of it..
...or maybe this request should go in that mod support thread? |

Well, nobody should be able to search enough to DOS your site. Flip on the search flood control feature and you shouldn't have to worry about that.
I'd just like logs so I know what my members are looking for...so I can give them more of it. |

Hi,
I know that this thread is a little bit older, but I'm currently searching such a hack/mod, too. Do you found a solution that provides you this functionality? Thanks. |
